Can woman be a prophet?

By Sherly at 2007-01-13 19:57:31
About women prophetess yes, according to the Bible there were many prophetess not only in OT but also in NT. Here are verses from the Bible:

Exo 15:20, "Then Miriam the prophetess, the sister of Aaron, took the timbrel in her hand; and all the women went out after her with timbrels and with dances."

Judg 4:4 Now Deborah, a prophetess, the wife of Lapidoth, was judging Israel at that time.

2 Ki 22:14 So Hilkiah the priest, Ahikam, Achbor, Shaphan, and Asaiah went to Huldah the prophetess, the wife of Shallum the son of Tikvah, the son of Harhas, keeper of the wardrobe. (She dwelt in Jerusalem in the Second Quarter.) And they spoke with her.

2 Chr 34:22 So Hilkiah and those the king had appointed went to Huldah the prophetess, the wife of Shallum the son of Tokhath, the son of Hasrah, keeper of the wardrobe. (She dwelt in Jerusalem in the Second Quarter.) And they spoke to her to that effect.
2 Chr 34:23 Then she answered them, "Thus says the LORD God of Israel, 'Tell the man who sent you to Me,

Luke 2:36 Now there was one, Anna, a prophetess, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher. She was of a great age, and had lived with a husband seven years from her virginity;

Bible also tells us that there is no difference between men and women as we read in Gal 3:28 "There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus."

Thanks and God bless

Although I am tempted to enter the Christendom-Islam fray, I'd first like to complement rather good thinking in the your Christological chapters. I think that there may be stronger ways to convey Trinitarian dogma as per Aquinas' method and I would be happy to contribute my thoughts.

بِسمِ اللهِ الرحمن الرحيم
The explanation:(In the name of God Most Gracious,Most Merciful)
Prophets do not belong to Jews, Christians or Muslims; but they are God's servants to whom He revealed the monotheism (: the First Commandment) which is the most important and the central axis of God's religion.
God's prophets mentioned in the Bible are our prophets. In the Glorious Quran, God tells us that He has not mentioned all His apostles; because there may be a large number of them. God - be exalted- said also that whether it be a male or female who believes that God is One alone, and works the righteous work, will have his reward from his Lord, and after death he will be secure and will not be afraid of the devils, and will not grieve.
In the present translations of the (original ?) Bible that was spoken by Moses and Jesus in their original languages - the words prophet and prophecy are ambiguous, and some that are mentioned as prophets, may not essentially be prophets, but may be seers or some upright men.
A prophet is a man to whom God may reveal, in various ways: either by sending an angel to him, or He Himself may inspire into the prophet as indirect inspiration, but not to speak to him directly, except for Moses to whom God spoke, but not directly and face to face, Glory be to God and be He exalted above that; but God spoke to him from the olive tree, while God - be exalted- was not in the tree, but He- being over His glorious Throne (which is above the kingdom of heaven) He sent the voice across the ether to the tree, and Moses heard it from the tree. This is like one reading the news from the BBC radio, but the man is not in the radio set, but he is at London broadcast station.
According to the Quran, the revelation and inspiration includes some women also, like the mother of Moses. God revealed to her as He reveal to prophets, and instructed her to monotheism, and assured her not to be afraid nor to be sad and to give suckle to Moses then if she is afraid then to cast him in a floationg box- like structure and to cast him in the river Nile, and that He will return him to her and make him an apostle.
While Mary, mother of Jesus Christ, the angel Gabriel stood before her and she saw him as a man standing near her and he gave her the glad tidings of having a noble son: Jesus, son of Mary - peace be on both of them.
Moreover, the revelation and inspiration include even other created beings like the bee, to which God - be exalted - in
